2011 Lakeland Camp General Information
This is a High School Approved 2-Person & 3-Person camp
Welcome to the 2011 Three Zebras WIAA Approved 2-Person & 3-Person High School Officials Camp at Lakeland College (SITE CHANGE). We will be running 2 separate camps this season at Lakeland College and this is exciting for us to have different levels of camps at the same venue to serve various needs of officials.
2-Person Approved Training Program
3 DAY CAMP (24-25-26 June 2011) Friday (Noon registration), Saturday (all day) & 1/2 day Sunday
2-person training is being offered to those seeking to work their way toward a varsity schedule. This camp is geared toward training and education of basic-intermediate level officials. This is a teaching camp with various classroom sessions and time to get 1:1 feedback with clinicians and take your game to another level in 2-person officiating.
3-Person Approved Training Program
3 DAY CAMP (24-25-26 June 2011) Friday (Noon registration), Saturday (all day) & 1/2 day Sunday
3-person training is being offered to those seeking to advance their officiating careers and expand on there experiences they may already have. This camp is geared toward training and education to learn more about 3-person officiating and then apply it on the court with on going support from clinicians. This camp is geared toward those with some 2-person experience who are looking to acquire more knowledge and application of 3-person officiating or those with some exposure and experience in 3-person looking to take their game to another level. This is a teaching camp with lots of classroom and video breakdown to improve your game.

Note: Beginning Monday, March 7, Interstate 43 northbound off-ramp to WIS Highway
42 will be closed until mid-August. Visitors to Lakeland's main campus traveling on north

Mission statement of 3 Zebras High School Officials Camp:
Commitment to excellence in officiating through learning, feedback, self-critique and fellowship
Camp goals:
1- To learn basic and advanced strategies of 2 or 3 person officiating
2- To develop a 2 or 3 person philosophy that relates to the NFHS and WIAA guidelines
3- To improve communication skills with your partners, players and coaches
4- To have fun and make the game of basketball a team effort by all those involved.
5- To have a passion for learning the game of high school basketball each and every opportunity you get and seek self-improvement through successes and failures.
What to expect from clinicians:
1- They will work hard all weekend to see the positive and the negative about your game and look to help you improve. They all have experience and will share things with you and want to help you out.
2- They will give you feedback verbally and in writing on the critique forms
3- Passion for officiating and teaching
What we expect from you as campers:
1- An open mind to learn new ideas from all those at camp – staff members and other campers have information to share
2- To HAVE FUN – that is most important – you gave up a weekend so you owe it to yourself to have fun
3- To be approachable and listen
4- To accept constructive criticism
5- To work hard on the court and in the classroom
6- To ask a lot of questions and try new things
7- To get better each game and each day you are at camp – try new things
Note – You are expected to stay until the end of camp – we all work hard and have places we need to be and this is a commitment. We will take attendance at all meetings and you are expected to be present on time ready to go.
**This camp is for basic - intermediate level officials who are currently working their way toward a varsity schedule or looking to improve in 2 or 3-person officiating.

Men's NCAA Collegiate BB Official
Dave will be a guest speaker for the 3-person camp and he may be attending some of the Sat sessions as well. Dave is a great asset to the camp.

Lifelong Madison resident who was a three sport athlete in high school and two sport athlete at UW Madison
Taught elementary physical education and coached for seven years before being appointed as Sports Coordinator for Madison school and Community Recreation. Served in that role for 29 years retiring in 2001.
Officiated high school basketball for 38 years and Division III Men’s basketball for 26 years. Worked the WIAA State finals 12 times, WISAA State Finals 18 times and the NCAA Div. III tournament 12 times including the Final Four in 2000.
Served as a rules interpreter for the WIAA for 26 years and this fall will speak to the WIAA Sportsmanship Forum audience of 400 coaches and student athletes addressing the officials perspective of sportsmanship.
Inducted into the Madison Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 and the State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006
Currently serves the Big Ten Conference as Officials Liaison in Football and observes basketball officials for all games at Wisconsin. Also serves as an evaluator for the Midwest and Northern Athletic Collegiate conferences.
Director of the Step Ahead Basketball Officials Camp for the past 11 years.
Married to Rita with two sons John and Matt as well as 4 grandchildren.
His best partner in officiating is in fact his wife Rita without whom he could never had gotten it done. Each night she and their faithful golden retriever “Jackson” were there to make the game complete.
His Motto “ Always do it right, the kids deserve it!”
